5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (June 10)
Downs...
4. The 'Protector' Isn’t Protected
Thanks for playing, Xia Li.
SmackDown's 'Great Protector' has lost this game though. She was swept aside like a jobber by Lacey Evans in that women's Money In The Bank qualifier on Friday - Li barely got a lick in here, and that doesn't bode well for her going forwards. Who knows who she p*ssed off to deserve this.
This barely three-minute-long loss to Lacey told your writer that WWE has given up on Xia. The company tends to do this with women who aren't in the title frame, and it's always awkward when they're then suddenly rocketed up the ranks to challenge. Remember this moment if that happens to Li.
Beating Xia so easily didn't do much to sell Evans' hard-working routine either. It's actually hard to spot who this helped, being honest, but WWE only wanted to push Lacey into the ladder match frame. They didn't give a toss about match quality here.
Thank God they did elsewhere.
