Downs…

4. A Recipe For Boredom

If you watch WWE for the celebrities, the video packages, and the entrances, the opening 20 minutes of SummerSlam were your jam.

WWE’s third-biggest PLE of the year opened with the usual arrival shots, followed by a video package narrated by Druski, followed by a full entrance for SummerSlam host Cardi B. This all preceded the lengthy entrances for Jey Uso and Roman Reigns, making it about 20 minutes before the bell rang for the first match.

On its own, that might not merit a “down,” just a head shake, but then the first half of the tag match pitting the OG Bloodline against the Seth Riders was about as dull and basic as you could imagine. Punch, kick, clothesline, punch, slam.

Now, the match got better - much better - but the combination of filler, lengthy entrances, and a bland start to the opening match was a recipe for disinterest. They got it back, but that was not what you would consider an electric start to SummerSlam.
