5 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Double Or Nothing 2023

4. FTR (c) vs. Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal

Dax Harwood was far stupider than Mark Briscoe when he dared to patronise the Ring Of Honor icon ahead of FTR's title defence against Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. 'The King Of The Mountain' was just dumb in thinking he could manipulate him too, but the heels' devious plan had worked well enough that Briscoe's impartiality wasn't going to be called into question unless it absolutely had to be.

And it did, as Jarrett's plot spectacularly unravelled in a match that proved that 'Double J' has gone from being nightmare AEW hire to fan service aficionado.

A greatest hits of everything he's in this run done so far, this had the Memphis babyface shine early doors, preposterous cheating from the heels to flip the script and an all-time bells-and-whistles bonanza to see the whole thing over the line. Highlights were Karen Jarrett blasting Aubrey Edwards over the head with a guitar so she yet again couldn't count her husband's shoulders to the match, Jarrett doing his longest ever doomed pre-pinfall celebration, and Mark Briscoe giving it great guns ejecting Sonjay Dutt as the inciting incident. Oh, and all the other highlights, of course. This was utter, utter perfection.
