5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE SmackDown (July 23)

1. Ducking The Spear

Smart move, boys.

That's what was flashing through this fan's mind when Seth Rollins dodged Edge's trusty Spear and powdered to safety. He did so after eating some fists, the 'Edgecution' DDT and some other spots. This was the right call for one simple reason: WWE didn't need to give away the Spear payoff just yet.

That'll come at SummerSlam (or maybe not if creative decide to turn this into a two/three-match series rather than a one-off), so it's cool to leave people hanging for now. Plus, the promo banter between both guys mixed history (Edge mentioning The Brood and Ministry Of Darkness got a pop - same with nods towards The Shield) and present to great effect.

This, until WWE properly ignites Cena vs. Reigns, is the hottest rivalry SmackDown has. It's also awesome to report on that roster depth again; Seth vs. Edge could be a main event, but it's in the midcard. That speaks volumes.
