In wrestling, triple threat matches often can be viewed as cheat codes for matches to build to a singles match (or two) involving the participants. It’s a way to extend a feud and get some extra television matches without giving away your marquee match too early.

Sometimes though, those three-way bouts can be the attraction on their own, a destination rather than part of the journey. That was the case at Survivor Series with the Intercontinental Championship match between Bron Breakker, Sheamus, and Ludwig Kaiser. We’ve seen all three singles permutations of the trio, and the combination of all three men worked exceedingly well.

There was Sheamus, the old warhorse still chasing his first IC title. Kaiser was the snotty heel chasing singles glory. And then there was Breakker, a non-nonsense, straight-ahead champ who will run through anyone to retain his title.

As predicted, the three men gelled well and hit each other hard throughout the match. At one point, Kaiser retrieved Sheamus’ shillelagh and battered the Celtic Warrior with it. Still, Sheamus came an eyelash away from winning the title when he nailed Bron with a Brogue Kick, only for Ludwig to pull the referee out. In the end, Breakker speared everything moving and picked up the win.

Overall, a solid match, but it will be interesting to see Breakker move on from Sheamus and Kaiser and defend against another challenger.
