5 Ups & 6 Downs From This Week's Impact Wrestling (Jul 5)
2. 0-2 For Ace
After suffering a loss to a returning TJP a few weeks ago, Ace Austin once again lost to the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion on this week's episode, submitting to his kneebar. While there was nothing wrong with the match itself, this really should have been Ace's match to win.
He's still a relative newcomer to the X division, having arrived earlier on in 2019. Having him lose two matches in a row to someone like TJP, who's already an established name in the wrestling industry as a whole, essentially puts Ace back to square one. For such a talented individual, it's a mystery why he's not winning these high profile matches.
As mentioned, the match was exceptional, and was actually quite a close-fought battle. In fact, Austin did almost pick up the victory when he grabbed a hold of the ropes while performing a pin attempt, being caught by the referee in the process. Because of how good the match was, it almost received an Up. The eventual outcome of the match held it back though, which is why you're finding it here. Good wrestling and bad booking decisions don't usually go together too well.
