5 Ups & 6 Downs From This Week's Impact Wrestling (Jul 5)

1. Flat Main Event

Go-home episodes of wrestling shows before big pay-per-views events will usually want to feature an epic main event to leave the crowd wanting more heading into the event. While the show-closing segment was a lovely one, the last match shown wasn't all that good.

The match in question, Rich Swann & Willie Mack vs. Johnny Impact & John E. Bravo, was supposed to build towards the X Division Championship match between champion Swann and challenger Impact. While it did accomplish that to an extent, you have to look at it from a wider angle - it's a match involving a corrupt referee. It'll never be able to achieve too much.

A stunner from Willie and subsequent phoenix splash from Rich ensured that it was the champion heading into Slammiversary with momentum right behind him, which would typically mean he's losing at the pay-per-view. Regardless of the outcome of that match, the go-home main event felt just a tad flat. Not what you'd be expecting before a big event.
