5 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Raw (18 May - Results & Review)

UPS…

5. Page Schools Cole

Since arriving on the main roster, Ethan Page has shown flashes of why he’s called “All Ego,” but Monday night, the former NXT Champion displayed that narcissistic persona quite well during a sit-down interview with Michael Cole.

Cole hadn’t even gotten ten words out before Page handed him a card with his own questions for the veteran announcer to ask him, saying that other interviewers had failed to capture his “standard of excellence.” Cole asked whether Ethan had realized how long he’s been doing this job, only for Page to acknowledge “the Voice of WWE” and suggest that everyone should look for room for improvement.

The sheer hubris to tell a 30-year WWE veteran announcer that his interviewing skills could use some upgrades was a wonderful touch, topped off by the question – which Cole begrudgingly read – essentially being a version of the classic Simpsons pre-planned question: “Mr. Burns, your campaign has all the momentum of a runaway freight train. Why are you so popular?”

Page never yelled, never threatened Cole, and even was polite (for the most part), but it was clear that he’s not taking Penta as seriously as he should, which could backfire spectacularly. Good segment, with bonus points for suggesting that Michael Cole should be looking to up his game.
