5 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Survivor Series 2020

1. An Underwhelming Farewell

To be honest, it’s tough to rate the Undertaker’s final farewell on the 30th anniversary of his debut at Survivor Series 1990. There’s never been a character like him, and likely never will be again.

But Sunday’s farewell was somewhat pedestrian. If you’ve seen a couple of Undertaker WrestleMania entrances, along with the end of WrestleMania 33, you’ve seen this show. Taker officially announced that it was time for his persona to “rest in peace.” Before that, a smattering of legends and Hall-of-Famers, including Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, Rikishi, Kevin Nash, Savio Vega, the Godwins, Big Show, Booker T, Triple H and Kane, all came out to take part in the festivities.

However, once they threw it to a good, but emotion-free video package, the superstars disappeared. There was no real celebration of Taker’s career, just an introduction of some of his friends and legendary opponents, followed by a video, a suped-up entrance, a brief speech, and a 10-gong salute, complete with a hologram Paul Bearer.

It also has to be mentioned that the piped-in fake crown noise was obnoxious, with numerous “Undertaker” and “Thank you Taker” chants breaking out several times. It’s not that WWE did this, but it was overkill by the third chant.

If Taker was your favorite wrestler, this had to be somewhat disappointing of a farewell. But again, it’s not like there’s anything to measure it against.
