5 Ups & 8 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (June 7)

2. Finally, Some Logical Booking

Drew McIntyre
WWE

We’ve had to hear everyone talk about how Drew McIntyre keeps getting world title rematches, but nothing changes, and he keeps losing.

So it was refreshing to finally see some logical booking on Monday night when MVP and Bobby Lashley insisted that their contract for Hell in a Cell include a stipulation that if Drew loses, he can’t challenge Lashley for the title again. Smart. And then McIntyre added a stipulation that he didn’t want any outside interference, so he wanted the match inside Hell in a Cell. (Thankfully, that’s exactly the PPV coming up! How fortuitous!)

What made this work was that Sonya Deville furiously scribbled language into the contract for the stips, and Adam Pearce had both men initial the changes. (MVP added a demand that the modified contract be notarized.) It just made the moment actually work and feel a bit more than the typical contract signing – stuff actually developed, and we didn’t even get the typical brawl.

So again, we will give this some kudos for clearing a low bar.
