5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (March 31)
Ups...
5. D-Von's Tribute To Ron Simmons
It's been confirmed by WWE that The Dudley Boyz vs. The Usos will take place on the Kickoff show. The match will be available on the WWE Network, but also as a free bout on the USA Network. On SmackDown, D-Von Dudley and Jey Uso contested a relatively short battle which pretty much tells everyone what the match result will be come WrestleMania. D-Von left with his hand raised, so WWE logic dictates that it'll be Jimmy and Jey who pick up the win come Sunday. Such telegraphed booking has been an aspect of WWE programming for the longest time, it's just the way things are. On the surface, there was nothing especially wrong with the match, and Bubba Ray Dudley did a fine job of jawing off regularly around ringside. At the very least, the quartet are trying to put some excitement into their rivalry. There was also a nice touch used to finish the match. Hitting Jey with a Spinebuster, D-Von was apparently showing respect to Ron Simmons with the move. The announcers made sure to jump all over that, calling the move the RDS (Ron 'Damn' Simmons) and noting D-Von's little tribute.
