Earlier in the night, during an Undisputed Era in-ring promo, Kyle O'Reilly requested to be the member who faced Pete Dunne in this Ladder match to decide who would get the advantage in the men's Team Undisputed Era Vs. Team McAfee and co. War Games bout.

Determined to get revenge on Dunne for turning on him at Halloween Havoc, O'Reilly went straight after the Brit - appearing in his first NXT contest in months.

Both of these men are famed for their imaginations when it comes to dissecting their opposition, but they both took that creative brutality to new extremes here. Dunne twisting O'Reilly's body up in a ladder, the UE member dragon screwing the "Bruiserweight" inside of the titular object and a gnarly looking suplex on a ladder outside of the ring made you wince at the thought of what these men could be capable of inside of a War Games structure.

In the end, after it looked like O'Reilly had the match wrapped up, the UE member was thrown off the ladder by a masked figure. Dunne then claimed victory for his team as the UE understandably complained about the mysterious run-in.

No doubt this will later be revealed as a sneak Pat McAfee, dipping back into his masked bag of tricks, but having the heels come out on top here, leaving the faces with a mountain to climb, was an obvious but effective choice.
