5 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night’s WWE NXT (April 22)
2. "Better Than Divas" Clap Clap Clap-Clap-Clap
Again, WWE Main Roster take note. It seems like wasted energy to point out the fact that the Women's Division on NXT beats the Divas Division into a cocked hat, but every time that the ladies of the development territory come out and steal the show like they did last night, comparisons must be drawn. Naomi is set to fight Nikki Bella in what promises to be a tepid heel vs heel match (always happy to be proven wrong), while Bayley, Charlotte and Becky Lynch tore the house down with a (mostly) beautifully balanced triple threat. The first steps were somewhat awkward, the double teaming of Lynch in the early going feeling a little clumsy, but once the match had entered a flow it worked marvellously, momentum shifting seamlessly, and they even found time for a big highspot. What looked like a standard tower of doom spot turned into Charlotte holding up Becky Lynch, before Bayley elbowed the Irish lass from the top. Charlotte then drove her into the mat with a power bomb. The "Holy S---" chants followed. The finish was pretty much an exact copy of the one from the IC Title match at Payback 2013, only this one made slightly more sense. At Payback, The Miz locked in the Figure Four Leglock to Barrett as Curtis Axel covered him for a sneaky win. What marred that finish is that this occurred in full view of Miz, which made the fact that he didn't break up the pin somewhat silly. Here, Charlotte was arching her back, an awesome-looking variation on the move that she calls the Figure Eight, meaning that she couldn't see Lynch make the cover. It was the match of the night, no doubt, and clear proof that NXT's women show no signs of slowing down.
