5 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE Payback 2020
3. Needs More Corbin
Matt Riddle winning his first WWE PPV match was a good thing, but it doesn’t do much good when they cram in as much King Corbin offense as they did.
If Corbin was some dominant, respected veteran that the audience bought as a serious threat, then you could see them having the king control the lion’s share of the match. But he’s not. He’s a solid midcard heel at best. However, we were treated to Corbin dominating much of the match, countering a lot of Riddle’s offense and just overpowering him. At times, it felt like the match was laid out with Shorty G in mind, then they subbed in Riddle.
This could have been a hard-hitting, solid affair with Corbin getting the jump and laying in a bunch of stiff offense, only for Riddle to absorb it and just annihilate him with an explosive onslaught. Instead, we watched a much-maligned oaf hang with a former MMA star who during his NXT run would have ripped apart Corbin.
Oh, and even with Riddle getting the win, Corbin made sure to get his heat back, jumping Riddle backstage and leaving him laid out. So the feud must continue.
