5 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (July 13)
1. Just Can’t See It
“I can’t believe I just uttered that sentence.”
Tom Phillips more or less said what every wrestling fan who has tried to relate to a friend what’s happening in the upcoming Rey Mysterio/Seth Rollins PPV match has probably said. Rollins repeated “an eye for an eye” about 10 times in disbelief, and it didn’t sound better the more he said it. In fact, it sounded more and more ridiculous each time someone referenced the stipulation.
It really feels like this feud missed its peak by about a month, and now they’re grasping to keep it interesting, hence this “eye for an eye” stipulation.
Apparently, this match is going to be of the cinematic variety, and quite possibly could use CGI. WWE’s foray into cinematic matches have been mixed at best, with one big hit in the Boneyard Match and a few misses since then. With this version of Extreme Rules being dubbed “The Horror Show,” clearly WWE feels it needs to up the ante, but there just isn’t a lot of confidence here.
It would be one thing if this risk-taking was generating newfound interest in WWE and pulling in a bigger audience, but it’s not. So all you’re doing is confounding the dwindling fans.
