5 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE Raw (May 4)

1. Raiders Are Profits’ Achilles Heel

In a perfect example of good storytelling, we saw tag team challengers defeat the Raw Tag Team Champions Monday night, and it made perfect sense.

The Viking Raiders set the table last week when they pointed out to the Street Profits that the Raw tag champs have never beaten them, and they’ve only claimed tag gold in NXT and on Raw after the Raiders were out of the picture.

Cue Monday’s tag match, which was a surprisingly bruising affair that tilted back and forth throughout. The Raiders threw everything at the Profits, but Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins hung in there, even hitting the Cash Out, only for Erik to save. The Profits avoided the Viking Experience once, but a second try connected, and the Raiders’ bragging rights over the tag champs continued.

That sets things up for a tag title match between the two that actually makes sense: You have the champs facing challengers they have never been able to beat, their claim to being the best in doubt unless they can vanquish the Raiders. And you have the challengers needing to back up their claims when it matters in a tag title match.

This is actually really good storytelling, and if they have another solid match like they did Monday night, we’re buying.
