5 Ways AEW Is Appealing To Millennials (And 5 Ways It’s Failing)

3. Failing - Ignoring Certain Notable Issues

It was mentioned earlier in this list that AEW have done a good job of being a socially conscious wrestling company. That said, there are still some worrying examples of them not doing everything they really could and, while you can’t say for sure, there’s certainly a chance this could turn off some members of the younger Twitter generation, many of whom want something better from their corporations nowadays.

Now, we can forgive the odd faux pas from Jim Ross on commentary. He's a man of a certain generation, after all, and it doesn't appear that there's real malice to any of his more outdated comments. But when you promote yourself as being the anti-WWE in many ways, you have to then be held accountable when you seemingly whitewash the abuse allegations held against the likes of Darby Allin, the troubling political tweets of Chris Jericho, or the fact that, just like WWE, your wrestlers still aren’t entitled to healthcare as a standard contractual arrangement.

Do better with this and maybe, just maybe, millennials will be more inclined to tune in and that 18-49 number will rise higher.
