5 Ways John Cena Could Make His WWE Return
3. As Roman Reigns’ Ally
Whether you like it or not, John Cena and Roman Reigns are the chosen superstars of their generation, and WWE pushed that angle for the changing of the guard at No Mercy.
It seems a giant waste of storyline potential to throw away the entire Reigns-Cena feud at a ‘B’ pay-per-view, with no sign of there being any continuation down the line. This is the Cena-Rock rivalry in reverse, and WWE milked that programme for three whole years.
Cena and Reigns will surely share the ring again, although it might not be in WWE’s best interests for this to be a singles match. If the company want to protect their two prized assets and avoid a position where one of them has to lose, this could be as partners.
Reigns spoke on Miz TV of his newfound respect for Cena, and they have tagged together previously. The Shield versus Reigns and Cena is a huge money match, and WWE have the pieces for it in place, with Roman working with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose right now.
If The Shield reunion were to go wrong and leave Reigns isolated against his brothers, Cena could make a surprise return to ally with 'The Big Dawg' and set up a blockbuster tag match.
