The scrooges at WWE are making history this year by broadcasting a live three-hour episode of RAW on Christmas Day, for the first time ever.
They will attempt to make the show feel special in order to persuade people to tune in, and promising the return of Big Match John would help do that.
WWE have previously used Cena’s return to hype holiday shows such as Memorial Day 2016, when he started his outstanding programme with AJ Styles.
He might not be at the heights that he was 10 years ago in terms of pulling power, but, even as a part-timer, Cena may still be the biggest draw in the business.
The 25 December edition of RAW will undoubtedly be Christmas themed, but the bearable parts of the show will build towards the Royal Rumble on 28 January. Cena could use his appearance to announce his entry into the match, and of course this revelation would not go without interruption, giving another superstar the rub of sharing his spotlight.
