1. The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels - Royal Rumble 1998

Not shockingly, the best casket match ever featured The Undertaker taking on Shawn Michaels. The two men were locked in a blood feud that stemmed back to the first Hell In A Cell match in WWE history. Not only did the WWE Championship hang over this contest, but also The Undertakers newly debuted brother Kane figured to factor into this contest. However, before we got there this match was home to a moment that altered not only Shawn Michaels career, but WWE itself. A few minutes into the match, Shawn was back dropped toward the casket, but grazed the side, injuring his lower back in the process. Amazingly, Shawn showed tremendous guts, and wrestled another 20 minutes. This was the best casket match by a mile, as Undertaker and Shawn not only brawled, but also had a stellar in-ring portion to go with creative use of the casket. This match featured the best casket spot ever, when Taker did a jumping tombstone on Shawn that landed them both in the casket. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8x1uUT1Pd8 Conversely, as some casket matches tend to go, a ton of interference occurred prompting Kane to finally appear and dispatch of the men who were attacking The Undertaker. Suddenly, Kane dropped The Undertaker in a manner similar to his first appearance, and choke slammed him in the casket. Shawn Michaels promptly took advantage, and closed the lid to seal the victory. Paul Bearer locked the casket, rolled it back to the entranceway, and set it ablaze. As you can see, whenever Undertaker lost a casket match something weird happened. Most importantly, this is the match to see if you wanted to gain knowledge of how a casket match works. They blended the best and worst parts of the gimmick flawlessly. If youre a fan who enjoyed his late career stuff, seeing a more athletic version of each man should be on your priority list. Contrariwise, this is the blueprint we should look forward to seeing Daniel Bryan & Kane work off of. Shawn Michaels student vs The Undertakers brother gives them a great irony in booking this match. We may not see many more casket matches, but if there was anyone to do this gimmick justice, its the former members of Team Hell No.
