50 Greatest WWE Raw Moments Ever
27. The Upset Kid (May 17th, 1993)
There are certain moments when a television show establishes itself as important fixture on a network, with a plot or arc so worthy that the entire broadcast is elevated by its presence. Razor Ramon's shocking loss to The 1-2-3 Kid was the precise moment Monday Night Raw separated itself from every other WWE show at the time. And it's little wonder The Kliq felt they could book the business better from the back of a van every week in the mid-1990s - whenever they took big swings working alongside one another, the evidence seemed to pile up in their favour.
Live, intimate, brutal and unpredictable, Kid's part-fluke part-resourceful pinfall over 'The Bad Guy' was everything the perfect pro wrestling match in a venue like the Manhattan Center should be.
Structured as a squash, it wasn't short on physicality, and Ramon's credit with the New York audience kept it heated. The twist ending was surprising, but not unbelievable thanks to Sean Waltman's dazzling execution, and it instantly created two new stars in the process. 'The Kid' was instantly a made man, whilst Razor's babyface turn that followed the loss opened the door to the most prosperous period of his WWE career.
