50 MMA Fights You Must Watch Before You Die
34. Chris Weidman Vs. Anderson Silva - UFC 162
Going into his 11th middleweight title defense, MMA legend Anderson Silva had pretty much secured his name in history as one of, if not the, greatest fighters to ever step foot inside the Octagon.
After dominating the 185lb weight class for seven years, many believed the Brazilian would hold onto the title until the day he retired. However, the same thing that made him such a beloved champion is what proved to be his downfall.
Despite facing a highly-touted undefeated prospect and top contender, Chris Weidman, Silva was still an overwhelming favourite heading into the fight. Even though he was a huge underdog, Weidman showed zero fear in taking on The Spider. Although Silva tried to goad his opponent in by using his usual in-cage antics, the American stayed the course, taking Silva down and controlling him in the first round.
While trying to create another chance to land a strike on Weidman, he took his showmanship too far and was clattered by a 1-2 punch that knocked him out clean and stunned every single person in attendance.
