50 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The 2020s (So Far)

41. The Strange Career Of Apollo Crews

Apollo Crews, declaring himself “Nigerian royalty”, carried a spear to the ring and adopted an accent. If you saw this on Coliseum Video in 1991, you’d think it was very behind the times.

Crews did this in early 2021.

After a predictable demotion, Crews found a new home in NXT the year after. There, in a match against Grayson Waller, he suffered a (storyline) laceration to his eye. The following copy is not made up. You just might not be aware of it because Shawn Michaels, by virtue of wrestling many classic matches in his in-ring career, has somehow escaped warranted comparisons to Vince Russo. Shawn treats pro wrestling logic like he does defenceless animals.

The damage caused to Apollo’s eye allowed him to see into the future. Apollo Crews developed the superpower of prescience and began to experience random visions of the future. His eye would also bleed, causing fear within his storyline rival Grayson Waller.

Usually, when vast, unknowable forces grant a living vessel this power, it is for some divine purpose.

Apollo’s future was some wins over Riddick Moss and Javier Bernal on Main Event.
