42. Gable Steveson’s Run

Gable Steveson: bad human being, worse professional wrestler.

There are idiots everywhere. This phenomenon is not exclusive to the pro wrestling space. But many people were ready to anoint this guy the next Kurt Angle purely because he once competed in the same sport. By this logic, Alex Marvez will one day monopolise the entire wrestling world because Vince McMahon used to be a commentator.

Did anybody who parroted this Steveson Is The New Angle narrative ever go to the bother of hearing him talk?

Gable Steveson’s body would have rejected a charisma transplant. Pro wrestling’s answer to Michael Owen, the guy was so deathly dull and lacked such presence that you’d rather pretend you hadn’t seen him at the bus stop than fork out money to watch him headline WrestleMania. You could fall into a vat of botox and look like Jim Carrey stood next to this guy.

Gable, an über-bust, made his WWE debut at the 2023 NXT Great American Bash. He went to a double count-out with Baron Corbin in six minutes. Shawn Michaels couldn’t bring himself to award him a debut victory. Even Oklahoma won his first match on Nitro.

The fans sensed that Gable didn’t even want what he was wildly unqualified to do, and jeered him out of the building.
