6 Cues The WWE Could Take From Lucha Underground

3. Mix Things Up Now And Then

If there is one thing that Lucha Underground has done particularly well, it has been mixing things up in the world of pro wrestling. From their sets, to the way they present their program, Lucha Underground is like no other wrestling show on TV. They have guys that wrestle such different styles in the ring, from a parkour influenced style, to Lucha, to what one of their wrestlers called €œprison shower style€. What they end up giving us is a less homogenized product because of that. Every week you see people of different backgrounds and fighting styles go toe to toe, and because there have only been two episodes, both with 42 minute run times, they manage to give us something fresh as far as in-ring content is concerned. For instance, Johnny Mundo (formerly John Morrison) has won two matches in his Lucha Underground career, the first by using his signature maneuver €œFin De Mundo€ and the second using a 450 splash. Mixing things up! Compare that to the completely homogenized WWE formula of giving us the same matches every show for weeks on end. We€™ve already seen Ziggler vs. Kane twice in the last two weeks, and we€™re getting it again on Smackdown this week. How many times did Ambrose fight Cesaro? How many times have we seen The Usos vs. Stadust and Goldust? I feel like we€™re in some kind of horrible time warp, or the movie Groundhog Day, where we€™re reliving the same matches over and over and over and over. The WWE has an expansive roster, and it would only benefit them to mix up what they offer us on a weekly basis.
