6 Successful Parody Wrestling Gimmicks You Totally Miss
1. Gillberg
Following the business transcending success of Goldberg, Vince McMahon embraced his pettiness and gave life to Gillberg - an antithetical, oxymoronic bastardization of his competition's pride and joy. Using sparklers instead of fireworks, a fire extinguisher instead of the smoke, and consecutively losing instead of winning, WWE did a fantastic job of taking the p*ss out of Goldberg. This emasculation of the character not only gave Duane Gill a record-setting run with the Light Heavyweight Title but also a place in the hearts of wrestling fans forever.
Still making money off his name whilst running his own wrestling school, his legacy lives on through the chanting of James Ellsworth's name in similar ironic context to the way we used to chant his. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see Goldberg squash him again on the go-home show before Survivor Series. Maybe we'll even get Gillberg vs. James Ellsworth somewhere down the road. Either instance would be a great way to give the character one last hurrah. Perhaps a Gillberg return would be even more exhilerating than Goldberg's?
