6 Times WWE Used Concussion Injuries For Storylines

3. Jeff Hardy Feels The Effects Of A Con-Chair-To

There's no question that the three-team tag feud between the Dudleys, Hardys and Edge & Christian was one of the in-ring highlights of the late 90s/early 2000s. On a seemingly weekly basis the six men (and their seconds like Lita and Rhyno) would tear it up in some of the best and most revolutionary tag-team matches ever seen. The original TLC match from SummerSlam 2000 has stood the test of time as one of the most awe-inspiring matches to ever take place in a WWE ring, but the way WWE got us there was more than a little questionable. The Dudleys were the masters of the table match, the Hardys the ladder and E&C, well, they were the 'chair men' of the then-WWF. That meant assaulting their contemporaries with the folding steel on a routine basis and the introduction of the 'Con-Chair-To', which saw the Canadian kayfabe brothers whack their opponent on both sides of the skull. It was deeply effective because it look like it really did hurt and had an inherent element of danger in it. WWE played this up on the July 31st 2000 episode of Raw, with Jeff Hardy on the receiving end of the steel assault after a match between the two teams. Backstage a short time later, the trainers were shown checking out a glassy-eyed Jeff. We later learned that Jeff had suffered a 'concussion' and would be out of the ring for a couple of weeks.
