5. All About Story More Than Match

Montez Ford Tommaso Ciampa

Here's the deal: Montez Ford vs. Tommaso Ciampa was hardly bad, but it’s clear these two are capable of so much better. That'll hopefully come down the line in the future when moves are more important than story. Or on PLE when they can marry both. Often, on TV, segments lean more on narrative drive than in-ring quality. Fair enough. It's better that these dudes have something going on week to week that fans can follow.

On Friday, their bout was more about the story of Ciampa losing it over the thought of Johnny Gargano being all buddy buddy with the Motor City Machine Guns. Toss The Street Profits into the mix and you’ve got a three-way tag waiting to happen…if Ciampa and Gargano even remain together as DIY. WWE want you to believe that it's only a matter of time before Tommaso does the dirty on 'Johnny Wrestling' again; just like he did years ago down in NXT.

There could be a plot twist coming though. Perhaps Gargano will be the one to cut Ciampa loose and start some sort of faction with Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley. Or, hell, maybe all four guys will come together eventually as a brand new group. Anything is possible, and that's what makes this story so much fun.

It's just sweet to add in something more than 'they're fighting for the titles'. Belts should be important, but the casual audience gravitates more towards human stories they can relate to. Ciampa warning Gargano to pick a side and keep his eye on their ambitions is simple, believable and relatable.

There have been loads of heartbreaking tag breakups in WWE history. DIY's would be right up there, if it happens again.
