Chris Jericho vs. Titán was actually one of Jericho's better recent matches, but it was still a little too sloppy at points to not find itself on the Downs part of this article.
There were certain moments here where the Ocho and Titán weren't quite on the same page, and the crowd was absolutely dead except for a few call-and-response moments where each man tried to stir up a reaction. It also didn't help that there's still no reason to be invested in the presence of CMLL talents bar the fact that they're, well, there.
What was the point behind bringing in the CMLL guys? Why were they choosing to target AEW? Why has it been the particular members of the CMLL roster that we've seen so far? And why was the babyface Chris Jericho, who's been positioned as having so much respect for CMLL, desperately trying to unmask Titán at one point?
As for any attempt to play up some history between Chris Jericho and Titán, Jericho faced a different Titán in three tag matches in CMLL back in 1993. That doesn't exactly generate any particular interest in seeing the inaugural AEW World Champion face off with the more modern Titán 31 years later, does it?
One bonus is that it's always good to see Jericho pull out the classic version of his Liontamer, and Titán himself had some nice offense, but this match was simply here for the post-match attack on Jericho by the Gates of Agony - which was done so that Hook could make the save.
Realistically, this could've been a Jericho match against anyone, or it could've had some time shaved off its 12 minutes to be better used elsewhere.
