4. A Solid Contrast In Wrestlers
WWE could not have found a better contrast of an opponent for Jey Uso if they built the challenger from the ground up.
In Logan Paul, WWE has a man who is everything the World Heavyweight Champion is not: Paul is an egotistical celebrity who hacked the system and bypassed all the years of hard work that go into making it to the top of the industry.
So naturally, Logan wanted Uso to just hand over his hard-earned World Heavyweight Championship. Fortunately, Jey was ready for the suggestion by observing that he wasn’t about to give the title to a “punk-ass You-Tuber” like Paul. Logan ran his mouth a bit more, finally earning himself an Air Force One to the mush, courtesy of an Uso superkick.
By running with Paul as the first challenger for the title, WWE has ensured that fans are up for the match regardless of quality; no one will be expecting the match to be much more than a handful of spots and a couple of teases of Logan winning. It also will be easy to have fans rally behind Jey against the hated Paul, which is exactly what they need right now.
Good call for this first feud, and Logan even managed to draw some of that heel heat later when he sucker-punched Jey backstage (which carried the ancillary benefit of explaining why Uso wasn’t around to help Sami Zayn in the main event).
