6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (25 Jan - Results & Review)

WWE Saturday Night's Main Event Rhea Ripley Nia Jax
WWE

Nia Jax never has been the kind of wrestler to put on a five-star PLE classic. But one code she has cracked during this recent WWE run is how to have an explosive, entertaining television match.

Saturday’s Women’s World Championship match against Rhea Ripley was no exception. A no-frills, fat-free bout, Jax ambushed Ripley during the introductions with a headbutt, kicking off a flurry of action, with Rhea hitting a cannonball off the apron, Nia flattening her with an avalanche Samoan Drop, and a crowd-pleasing spot when Nia blocked a hurricanrana, only for Ripley to counter a powerbomb with a Code Red.

Jax hit her finisher, but she gloated while going for a second Annihilator, and Ripley dropped her with an Electric Chair. One Riptide later and Rhea successfully retained her title.

This was exactly what you would want out of an opening match on a television special. Jax losing clean might diminish her luster a bit, but this was 100% the right call.
