6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (25 Jan - Results & Review)

2. Monster Bash Underwhelms

Given what happened after the match ended, it’s very possible that the bout itself between Jacob Fatu and Braun Strowman was deliberately bland and basic. In that case, this gets a mild down.

Braun and Fatu brawled briefly before a commercial break, and continued in the ring for a short time before heading outside for a Strowman Express trifecta, with Braun clearly gassed by the third roundtrip and eating a Samoan Drop on the announce desk. Back inside, Fatu took over and ran wild, leading to a disqualification and the post-match shenanigans, which will receive praise later.

Here’s the problem: If WWE wanted to save this collision between the Monster of All Monsters and the Samoan Werewolf and keep it as a special attraction down the road, they should have almost immediately cut to the DQ and antics. Instead, fans witnessed an aura-less match that didn’t feel like something special.

There’s every reason to believe, given the post-match angle and a stipped-up rematch, that these two will deliver when they battle again. But bell to bell, this was not it. The match wasn’t helped by the first two matches on the card being all action and just going for broke from the jump.
