6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (25 Jan - Results & Review)
4. Bron Breaks Sheamus
The Intercontinental Championship clearly is Sheamus’ white whale, the elusive prize that will complete him and his WWE career. Watching him continue to stab at the title and come up short is a painful – but entertainingly so – scene.
Bron Breakker successfully fended off Sheamus at Saturday Night’s Main Event, managing to overcome the Celtic Warrior’s best shots and nail his own killshot with a spear put the challenger down. The two delivered a great volley outside the ring when Sheamus caught Bron charging for his super-spear and javelined him over the barricade into the timekeeper’s area. But when Sheamus tried his own running leap off the steps at Breakker, Bron speared him out of the air.
Bron and Sheamus continued their fight in the ring, trading some of their best offense, including a Brogue Kick that seemingly won the match… until Breakker got his foot on the rope. One spear later and Bron had successfully defended his title.
Overall, this was a solid match between two hard-hitting wrestlers that padded Breakker’s title defense record and added to Sheamus’ frustration with winning the IC title. If WWE is smart, they’ll separate these two for a good while now. Perhaps the Celtic Warrior should reflect on his futility in recent months and find a new quest as part of his journey.
