6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (25 Jan - Results & Review)

5. The Body Still Hates Referees

During his illustrious announcing career, Jesse “The Body” Ventura made no bones about his hatred of referees and their perceived bias, often in favor of babyfaces.

Ventura brought that longstanding gripe with him to the commentary desk on Saturday night during the Intercontinental Championship match, lighting into the ref for what he considered an inconsistent count on a Sheamus cover. The Body alleged that the referee raised his arm a foot higher on the “three count,” thus making for a very long two.

But Jesse really lost it when Sheamus drilled Bron Breakker with a Brogue Kick and the ref appeared to count three but reversed himself when he saw the IC Champ’s foot on the ropes. Ventura kept insisting that the referee can’t go back on his three count because he sees the rope break after the fact.

It’s perfectly understandable if some fans felt like Jesse was a grumpy old man yelling at people to get off his lawn, but longtime fans who remember the original iteration of Saturday Night’s Main Event likely enjoyed hearing The Body lose his mind over referees one more time.
