Something special is simmering away in SmackDown's tag-team division. For proof, just look at this eight man tag. Normally, such matches are thrown together for the sake of it, and it rarely makes sense why anyone's on the same side. Not here. Pretty Deadly have been strung along by DIY with the promise of a tag title shot, so they don't want to rock the boat too much.

Then, there are Los Garza's aspirations of someday becoming champs. They agreed to team with the Motor City Machine Guns for one reason: Even a win in an eight man like this could propel Angel and Berto towards the gold longer term. That's logical, and it's this kind of logic that makes it easier for fans to care about certain matches before they even kick off.

The action was good too. Arguably, all eight guys could've done without WWE going picture in picture to show some movie clip right before an actual ad break. That was a puzzling bit of show formatting, but this match was an enjoyable blast of tag work with plenty of moving parts overall. Again, if you're going to throw a lorry load of workers out there at the same time, then at least program a few little stories to keep things interesting. Triple H is doing that with the taggers.

Finally, giving the Machine Guns a win over DIY (Tommaso Ciampa took the fall) was smart heading into the Rumble. MCMGs and DIY are finely poised to tear the house down in that '2 Out Of 3 Falls' clash.

Bring it on.
