6 Ups & 4 Downs For WWE Raw (28 July - Results & Review)
Ups…
6. A Means To An End
If there’s one role Grayson Waller exists to fill, it’s that of human punching bag.
Waller played his role nicely Monday night, as Sheamus battered the Aussie Icon around the ring and ringside area, shrugging off the occasional attack. The Celtic Warrior avoided a Rusev run-in and picked up the win before the Bulgarian Brute attacked Sheamus with his shillelagh.
Sheamus has become something of a beloved figure among WWE fans, with crowds happy to see him and perfectly pleased for the Celtic Warrior to play the hits. They were behind Sheamus battering Waller, pummeling him into jelly with relative ease.
Rusev’s attack was predictable, given that he and Sheamus are tied 1-1 in singles matches against each other. This undoubtedly will set up a rubber match between the two, which might not thrill a good-sized section of the fanbase, but it could prove a great opportunity for Rusev to re-establish himself. You also have to believe that the two friends have saved some of their stiffest shots for a decisive final bout.
Truthfully, this should have come months ago, but we’ll give mild passing marks to this, assuming it will serve as a launching pad for Rusev. If it doesn’t, then this was just a waste of time and effort, a space-filler.
To that end, this gets passing marks, but barely. It could just as easily have landed on the “downs” side of the equation.
