6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite: Beach Break (Feb 3)
4. Chris Jericho Triumphs In Neat Battle Royale
Beach Break's opening tag team battle royale was a neat bit of business that was rarely too crowded for its own good, and ultimately succeeded in telling the right story - with the right winners.
Chris Jericho and MJF prevailing was always the prestige option. They did so via inadvertently (in Jericho's case) widening The Inner Circle's chasm, as 'Le Champion' accidentally eliminated Sammy Guevara when they had a theoretical advantage over Dante Martin. The Top Flight man then ate a Judas Effect on the apron, securing Jericho's win.
Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows appeared to build towards their upcoming match with Private Party, with their low bridge putting Isiah Kassidy out of the clash. Elsewhere, Matt Jackson's early elimination seriously harmed The Young Bucks' chances of naming their own challengers, and was a nice flip on the last tag team battle royale, that saw Matt triumph against the Inner Circle's odds. Various Dark Order pairings looked great in their team-up spots, too.
Not the slickest battle royale AEW has ever produced, but it's so easy for such matches to become formless messes. This never fell to that level, and with all Inner Circles barring Wardlow and MJF turning against him, Jericho finds himself in an interesting spot.
