6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (14 August - Review)

5. New Champ Alert!

Chelsea Green Piper Niven

News about Sonya Deville’s unfortunate injury just weeks after finally winning a title in WWE was heartbreaking – there’s never a good time to go down with a torn ACL, but this was rotten.

Deville’s injury also cast doubt on the future of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, which has been vacated multiple times in the past year-plus, with champs bit by the injury bug as well.

Adam Pearce was on the verge of forcing Chelsea Green to relinquish the titles when she suggested holding auditions for a new tag partner to take up Sonya’s spot, a move that isn’t completely unprecedented in WWE lore. Katana Chance & Kayden Carter came into Pearce’s office looking for a tag title shot, only for Chance to get blindsided by a returning Piper Niven, who declared herself Chelsea’s new partner.

Green’s shock and ensuing attempt to wiggle out of this arrangement was great, and it was made even better by Niven basically saying that she wasn’t suggesting it – she was stating it as fact.

Better yet, Piper providing the muscle while Chelsea continues her rants against WWE management and the women’s division could be pretty entertaining. It would switch up the dynamic from two complainers to one epic Karen with a bodyguard.
