6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (23 Dec - Results & Review)

5. The One Saving Grace

Damian Priest Finn Bálor
WWE

Damian Priest continuing to feud with the Judgment Day – and more specifically Finn Balor – is the story that never ends in WWE right now, and it’s reaching the point of diminishing returns.

His match against Dominik Mysterio Monday night was another nothing bout that was less about the in-ring action and more about what it set up afterward: a six-man tag match with the War Raiders joining Priest against the Judgment Day next week. Fine, that’s at least a new wrinkle and follows Erik and Ivar taking the tag titles off Finn and JD McDonagh.

However, one cute bit saved this: Dominik told his cohorts when he went to make the match that he “had a plan” to beat Priest. During the match, Damian was dominating when he spotted a Santa at ringside and yanked the beard down to reveal McDonagh. Priest beat him up, then went to climb back into the ring before stopping and lifting the ring skirt, exposing Carlito. Another beating commenced.

Joe Tessitore nailed it when he said, “He knows their playbook!” That was such a true statement: Priest was part of Judgment Day since the beginning, so it only made sense that he knew all the tricks and short-circuited those plans. It showed a smart babyface thinking a couple of steps ahead in thwarting his rivals.

Regardless, a blowoff match to put the Balor/Priest feud to bed for good would be tremendous.
