6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Mar 18)

2. Paul Heyman’s Freak Out

Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman don't really do comedy.

Well, Heyman does some solo, but he's rarely comedic whenever he's on screen with his 'Tribal Chief'. That almost changed on SmackDown. Reigns looked on proudly as his manager told the world that Brock Lesnar wouldn't be there, then turned into a fleeing coward when Paul E revealed that Brock was actually in the arena after all.

Heyman turned what could've been a small or insignificant moment into something mega. That's how good he is. The way he tried to interrupt Roman to tell him that Brocky boy was on the war path? Priceless. Kudos to Reigns for selling it like he'd just seen a ghost too.

There's a popular theory that laughs don't work at a main event level. That's true if performers over-rely on comedy, but they can sprinkle some giggles in here or there, especially when it's the heel who's getting egg on his/her face.

That's what happened during the opening segment.
