6 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE WrestleMania Backlash

1. Cesaro Makes Most Of His Shot

No one was expecting Cesaro to come in out of nowhere and win the WWE Universal Championship on Sunday night. But in wrestling his first singles world championship match in WWE, Cesaro had the opportunity to make the company take notice of what he really can do in a main event spotlight.

And the Swiss Superman delivered a really good match challenging Roman Reigns for the title, going toe-to-toe with the Tribal Chief. He used power and his agility, then gritted it out after Roman targeted his right arm. Cesaro had one of his best matches in a good while, and Reigns was his usual magnificent self.

The result was a world title match that delivered exactly what it promised. Cesaro looked great in defeat, while Reigns managed to pull out the win by himself – which is important for him to do from time to time (you can’t have him leaning on Jey Uso constantly).

Whether Cesaro hangs around the upper card or slides back down (perhaps to eventually challenge for the Intercontinental Championship) depends on how his feud with Seth Rollins goes from here. But for one night, the Swiss Superman looked like he belonged where he was in the main event.
