6 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling (19 Jan)
1. Gin & Juice Seals The Deal
Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy are going on to challenge for The Good Brothers' World Tag Team Championships. While a date hasn't been set for the title contest at the time of writing, you can sense a big fight feel for that bout.
With Tony Khan and Jerry Lynn sat at ringside, Private Party took the fight to the aptly-named Beer Guns tandem of Chris Sabin and James Storm, a match that was packed full of innovative and, at times, straight-out crazy tag team manoeuvres. The Silly String never fails to amaze, while Sabin and Storm - members of three of the greatest tag teams in Impact history - quite rightly came together like bread and butter. Yes, we saw them together at Turning Point against XXXL, but this was far and above the greater outing from the duo.
Having Matt Hardy motivating them from ringside allowed the AEW standouts to flow ever so naturally in an Impact ring. Despite never being ranked quite highly in AEW, apart from their initial debut win over The Young Bucks in the tag title tournament, Marq and Isiah proved they can work perfectly in the main event scene. Winning the bout via Gin & Juice only came after Sabin's leg was trapped by Jerry Lynn behind the referee's back. An extremely enjoyable bout between the two tandems. Given their win, it means we'll see Private Party back in an Impact ring at some point.
A post-match brawl between Private Party, Beer Guns, and The Good Brothers ended the show in spectacular fashion. It felt like an organic ending to the show, seeing as the brawl never ended before the show did. Quen and Kassidy stood out here better than they have at the best of times in their All Elite careers.
For the first episode post-Hard To Kill, this was outstanding.
