6 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (22 April - Results & Review)

4. Meet ‘Yeet,’ The New ‘What’

Jey Uso
WWE

Remember when Jey Uso was a top-tier promo, when some deranged fans were going so far as to suggest that his “acting” during the Bloodline saga was worthy of an Academy Award?

The truth is, Jey was really dialed in. Then “yeet” happened.

“Yeet” has been a tremendous call-and-response for Uso to connect with the fans, leading to some of the loudest crowd interactions on Raw these days. But that popularity has come at a cost.

Jey’s promos have suffered greatly, as he’s turned into a guy whose speaking style is simply a deliberate attempt to get fans to “yeet” at him. His opening remarks, with “yeet” in-between every pause:

“Backlash is in two weeks… I said, Backlash is in two weeks… So I have a lot to prove… Prove to the world… Who I say I am… Main Event… Jey… Uso.”

It’s a double-edged sword. Jey gets great reactions from crowds, but this is going to turn at some point, much like “what” became obnoxious. It’s turned Jey’s compelling promo style into a walking catchphrase, which is unfortunate.
