Io Shirai versus Candice LeRae was a well-received match at NXT TakeOver Toronto 2019, possibly the best match on the card.

So when LeRae and now Iyo Sky squared off on Raw, it was safe to assume that while we wouldn’t get a 15-minute barn-burner, we could expect a well-worked, enjoyable match. What we got wasn’t a bad match by any stretch, but it was really just an average TV bout.

Maybe once again, this match was hampered by a lacklustre crowd that didn’t get behind anything until Sky started showing off a bit – it’s tough to call a match technically sound when fans are muted for a babyface’s comeback. But this was an easily forgettable match.

Also, what does this mean for LeRae, who defeated Dakota Kai last week? Maybe she finds a tag partner who can beat Sky and the two challenge for the tag titles? It’s a story that could be told, but the announcers spent the entire match lamenting how Bayley’s headset didn’t work.
