6 Ups & 6 Downs From Kane's WWE Career
1. A Game-Changing Monster
Despite all the peaks and valleys Kane has experienced throughout his WWE career, his initial impact as a spectacular, awe-inspiring monster will always be his greatest triumph.
It's easy to forget just how unique 'The Big Red Machine' felt back in the day. Wrestling had seen near-7 foot monsters before, but not like this. Kane was otherworldly. His mystique and aura were palpable, and his threat level through the roof. Much of this was down to the exquisite job WWE had done building the character prior to his debut, but he was a beast so terrifying even The Undertaker was terrified of him, and that's what made him one of the Attitude Era's biggest assets.
At his best, Kane was a captivating, must-see performer. From the moment he arrived at Badd Blood, fans were conditioned to expect something big whenever that beautifully twisted entrance music hit with a burst of fire on the ramp. He was, at least initially, a mutated 'Taker in his most badass form, and that's still worth celebrating today.
That we were made to believe that a character like this could conceivably exist, even in the weird and wonderful Attitude Era, is testament to both Jacobs' skill as a performer and his employers' (initially) sublime creative direction.
