3. ‘An Interesting Dilemma’

Anyone who read last week’s column is going to be surprised to hear this, but there will be some serious praise for the Goldberg/Gunther program in the “ups” column. But first, we need to address one negative.

After conducting a sit-down interview with Goldberg, Michael Cole said that Goldberg admitted this is absolutely his last match, and if he wins the World Heavyweight Championship, it would be “an interesting dilemma.”

If the implication is that Goldberg would retire with the title, doesn’t that put him in the same spot as John Cena, who right now is threatening to walk out of WWE and retire as Undisputed WWE Champion just to ruin wrestling? If that’s true, then how is Goldberg’s potential situation any different?

Obviously, he has to win the title first – which doesn’t feel likely – and he could always be prodded into defending it (and his honor) one last time, going out on his back. But why even put that possibility out there, especially since Cena is a heel using the same plot point as a threat to fundamentally change professional wrestling?

Just think about this sort of thing for five minutes, y’all.
