6 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw (30 Jan - Review)
4. Interruptions That Make Sense
Generally speaking, promo trains get negative marks here because of WWE’s over-reliance on them as contrived plot devices. But there are times that these interruptions actually have a logical flow in storytelling.
Witness the opening segment of Raw, where Cody Rhodes gave his post-Royal Rumble victory speech and called his shot with Roman Reigns, only to be cut off by the Judgment Day, who came out to get in the American Nightmare’s face for eliminating Dominik Mysterio in the Rumble and thus thwarting the group’s master plan for the night.
Mysterio talking trash because he was completely incapable of handling his business at the Rumble once Finn Balor and Damian Priest weren’t there to bail him out was pure gold (as usual), and it only served to fire up the fans even more, who chanted, “Kick his ass!”, begging Cody to put the boots to ex-con Dom.
We even got a second interruption moments later when Edge ran out to attack Judgment Day, yet another unplanned interjection that made sense given Saturday’s PLE.
Don’t make it a habit WWE, and we might actually give it positive marks when it works well.
