6 Ups And 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (April 20)

5. Luck Is For Losers

I've been critical of most of NXT's backstage promos in the past, and I stand by that sentiment - a poorly-written, overly-rehearsed 30 second speech does nothing to make a wrestler a better talker, nor does it help sell a match or make a TV program more entertaining. That said, the two on this week's broadcast were winners.

Austin Aries was up first, talking about how his victory over Baron Corbin at TakeOver: Dallas was not luck, but skill. Not only was it refreshing to hear someone talk about Corbin without verbally fellating him, but Aries's no-nonsense verbal style makes him come off like a throwback to a time when wrestlers' personalities felt more authentic.

The only red flag, though, came when Aries promised that he could beat Corbin again, and that all "The Lone Wolf" needs to do if he wants a rematch is ask. I really, truly hope that WWE doesn't feel it's necessary for Corbin to get his win back now that he's on the main roster, but it wouldn't be a surprise.
