6 Ups And 2 Downs From WWE NXT 2.0: Vengeance Day (Feb 15)
1. Bron Breakks Santos After Some Dolph Distraction
WWE.comLast week's over-stuffed verbal throwdown between the NXT Champion and his sea of incoming challengers acted as easily the biggest sign of what was no doubt on the horizon in last night's main event. And the reveal of just about every man and his dog having their eye on the show-closer throughout the show via backstage promos only hammered home the inevitable interference even further.
But thankfully, the arrival of Dolph Ziggler late in the day, dealing out a sweet superkick for an equally delightful near-fall, before getting chased away by Tommaso Ciampa didn't derail an otherwise enjoyable Bron Breakker vs. Santos Escobar NXT title match... deciding to have the champ massacre the challenger post-Eddie Guerrero tribute nearly did, however.
Whoever thought it would be an ace idea to have Breakker bulldoze through Santos with a Goldberg-esque spear in the wake of a touching attempt at a Latino Heat frogsplash - 18-years to the day of his immortal WWE title win - should've been on the receiving end of said tackle. The understandable boos very nearly took the shine completely away from a serious hurdle the "young Champion" had to overcome. But Bronnie still delivered the goods and another babyface performance fitting of the guy tasked with carrying the brand forward.
What the future holds for the Legado del Fantasma leader is anyone's guess, though. Santos deserves more moments atop the card like this and proved here he can definitely hang. But you wouldn't bet against him being depressingly shuffled back into the mid-card mix as another main roster attraction seems poised to lend some "star power".
