6 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's Raw (April 17)
2. A Cruel Twist Of Fate
The penultimate bout on the show saw Cesaro take on Jeff Hardy in what was Hardy's first singles match in WWE since 2009. While the bout was good overall, there were some clear problems.
First, the good - the match was well worked, with Hardy selling his leg but still hitting his trademark moves (albeit at a bit of a reduced velocity). Cesaro, of course, was as crisp as ever, putting up a good fight (he blocked a Twist of Fate and a Swanton Bomb), but when couldn't nail Hardy with a superplex, that ended up spelling the end for him. Soon after, Hardy connected with the Twist of Fate, then hit the Swanton for the win.
Unfortunately, this match didn't feel as important as one would expect Hardy's singles return to feel. When he left WWE, he was legitimately one of the top stars in the company. Now, that same charisma wasn't evident, and the crowd sure wasn't there for it (at least until the Swanton). Granted, they went on in a bad spot - maybe if this opened Raw it would have been different - but the strong match came with a side of disappointment.
